I’m sure you’ve heard this word so many times “Follow Up”, but maybe you don’t have a complete grasp of what it truly means or maybe you’re confused..or maybe, just maybe you are a pro already and you’re looking for additional tips. Either way, you dropped by to read this blog for a reason…right?
Let’s talk about Follow up. What does it FEEL like, what does it LOOK like and how do you do this thing called following up?
Follow up is a vital and instrumental part of your business. If you don’t reach out to your leads and customers, I PROMISE you someone else will and they will become someone else’s loyal customer, because you have failed at doing your #1 job..taking care of your CUSTOMER! Customers are everywhere! We meet them while shopping for groceries, making a deposit at the bank, at our child’s dance class or soccer practice, at home parties, and vendor events. When you meet someone, what steps do you take to ensure the “lead” is something you can work with? Want to learn more about leads, read this blog article http://locketsbyrochelle.com/leads-they-are-everywhere/
Always carry business cards and a catalog, should your company have a catalog. If you don’t have either item, carry a scratch pad of paper with you. Your #1 priority when you connect with a prospect is to retain their information!
Now, what do you do with this persons information? Do you have a VIP page for your customers? Do you have an email distribution system or even a follow up system like Fiitfu?
Within 24 hours of meeting your new prospect, it’s a must that you follow through with whatever promises you’ve made. You may have said I’ll mail a catalog, I’ll call you to get your email or I will email you more information about my product. DO WHAT YOU SAY…because if you don’t, that is your first strike. You aren’t reliable, you can’t be trusted and you certainly don’t want the business. Again…do what you say you are going to do.
When you meet someone at an event, the same applies. The fortune in your business is in the follow up. If you don’t value the lead, your business isn’t going to go anywhere and that person will become someone else’s customer, I PROMISE you that! I cannot tell you how often I receive feedback from someone searching for an Origami Owl® Designer because their Designer isn’t returning calls, texts or emails. How incredibly sad is this! I don’t want their customer and I certainly don’t want to clean up the mess someone left behind aka a mad or frustrated customer. BUT, their loss is my gain, certainly! I take care of my customers, they are my #1!! If you ever find yourself in this situation, be sure to do the right thing, try to reach the office and find the person the customer was dealing with and definitely permit the initial Designer the opportunity to make the customer happy…if that is in any way possible!
So, you’ve now made the initial contact with the lead, within 24 hours. What next? What is your preferred method of tracking leads? Do you prefer paper or do you prefer digital? I’ve created a paper tracking system, called Lead Tracker. Click here to access the form: Trackers
After your initial contact, wait about 3-5 days and try again. An old trick…no answer, no message left. Just call again later, at a different time. I will postpone leaving a message twice, but I will leave one on the 3rd call. I will also send out a text message on the first or second attempt…up to you. Everyone communicates differently. Ask your customers which method of communication is best for them and note it in your follow up system.
My preferred method of keeping track of my leads, so I don’t forget and/or lose paper slips…because trust me I am the STICKY QUEEN. I use a system called Fiitfu. Fiitfu is short for Fortune is in the Follow Up. Check it out and get a free trial http://www.fiitfu.com
Finally, if you have a VIP page, be sure to invite your prospects to the page.
Follow up is the heart of your business! Customers will appreciate you, respect you and shop with you over and over again because you took the time to care about them and build a mutually rewarding relationship. Without follow up, you won’t grow your business. Pick up the phone and make that call today. Grab your leads and challenge yourself with your very own booking blitz. You’ve got this!
